Pathway to Becoming a Pearson Scholar

To become a Pearson Scholar, one must first secure a nomination from their school and then apply for undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto. It is suggested to consult with your school guidance counselor to initiate the nomination process. Upon receiving the nomination and successfully applying to the University of Toronto, candidates will receive a personalized and secure link to access the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship application.

Eligibility criteria for applying to the Pearson International Scholarship include the following:

  • The applicant must be an international student, meaning they are not Canadian and require a study permit.
  • Applicants must presently be in their last year of secondary school or have completed their studies no earlier than June 2023.
  • The applicant must intend to commence their studies at the University of Toronto in September 2024.
  •  It is noteworthy that students who are already registered in post-secondary studies cannot be considered, and likewise, students beginning their studies at another post-secondary institution in January 2024 are also ineligible for consideration.

The application process for the 2024 Competition commences in September 2023. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • In order to participate in the program, students are required to obtain a nomination from their respective institutions. High schools that have not been contacted or verified are encouraged to submit an application for consideration. The application can be accessed through the provided link. Additionally, high schools that have previously participated in the program will receive access to their nominations in early September.
  • Submit an application for enrollment at the University of Toronto to begin your studies in September 2024. Ensure that you complete your application for admission by the specified deadlines. It's important to note that you will be considered for the Pearson Scholarship based on your first choice of program at U of T. Although you may apply for multiple programs and receive admission offers, if awarded the Pearson Scholarship, it will be restricted to your first choice of program at U of T at the time scholarship decisions are made.
  • After the university receives a nomination and the applicant has applied for admission, they will be able to finalize the online Lester B. Pearson Scholarship application. A private link to access the scholarship application will be provided once the nomination by the school is successfully confirmed. 
                                               

The deadlines for the Pearson Scholarship are as follows:

  • School nomination deadline: 30 November 2023
  • Student OUAC admission application deadline:  15 December, 2023. It is crucial to emphasize that this marks the ultimate deadline for submitting an application to the OUAC. While applications can be submitted up to December 15, 2023, it is strongly recommended to apply for admission through the OUAC as early as possible. The recommended date to apply for admission is before November 7, 2023, as program spaces fill up quickly and popular programs may close early.
  • Student scholarship application deadline:  15 January, 2024

Academic Integrity Notice:

  • The University of Toronto strictly prohibits the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including ChatGPT and other similar AI applications, for creating content intended for any undergraduate award application. Students and applicants discovered to have utilized generative AI, such as ChatGPT, to generate content presented as their own ideas will face disqualification from award eligibility. Such conduct constitutes a serious academic offence.

Fraud Notice:

  • It is important to understand that the Lester B. Pearson Scholarship Program at the University of Toronto does not engage with agencies or educational "agents" for the purpose of student recruitment or scholarship offerings. It is advised to exercise caution regarding individuals or entities claiming to offer false acceptances or demanding fees on behalf of unaffiliated third parties. 
  • Individuals who receive the Pearson Scholarship must be nominated by their current secondary school using the designated online process. This prestigious scholarship is reserved exclusively for undergraduate degree applicants.

Guidance Counselors & Headmasters Resources:

The university highly values its relationship with guidance counselors and headmasters globally. They have meticulously assembled resources and compiled responses to commonly asked questions regarding the Pearson Scholarships program, aiming to aid counselors and headmasters in effectively advising their students.

  • Nomination Process: 

High schools that have already been verified by Enrollment Services will receive personalized and secure nomination forms annually via email, beginning each September. If a school has not yet been verified, they are encouraged to submit an application to participate in the program, which will be available starting in September. Once the verification process for the school is completed, the respective nomination form will be provided, along with guidance through the subsequent steps.

  • Nomination Timeline:

Nominations will commence in September, with the deadline to nominate a Pearson Scholar set for November 30th, 2023.

  • Multiple Nominations:

Schools are allowed to nominate one student annually. The Pearson Scholarship is designed to acknowledge exceptional students worldwide, and the selection procedure entails schools selecting their most outstanding candidate for nomination. It is strongly encouraged for schools to nominate the student who exemplifies the qualities of a Pearson Scholar the most.

  • Decision Notification:

Pearson Scholarship recipients will receive notifications by the end of April 2024.

  • Nomination without U of T Application:

Certainly, it is permissible to nominate a student who has not yet applied for admission to U of T. However, to submit the scholarship application, students must first apply for admission to U of T.
